13 Jan Could Your New Year’s Resolutions Be Damaging Your Skin?

A new year, a new you! At this time of year, many of us are still going strong with our New Year’s resolutions – but could your new years resolution be damaging your skin? Believe it or not, three of the most popular resolutions could be doing more harm than good when it comes to keeping your skin healthy.

Exercise More

Going to the gym is a great way to start exercising more, but it could spell trouble for your skin. Many gyms have air conditioning, as it’s essential for helping the body to maintain its temperature when you’re putting it through its paces, but air conditioners can have a similar effect on the skin as cold winds – they draw moisture out of the skin. It’s known as ‘sick building syndrome’, and can lead to dry skin. Be sure to moisturise well after an intensive workout.

A Regular Skin Care Routine

One of the best ways to keep your skin looking fresh and clear is to give it the care and attention it needs. This means gently exfoliating to remove dead cells that can lead to a dull appearance, moisturising daily, and taking off any makeup before bed. However, it’s important to be selective over the products you use. Some creams contain parabens, halogens, perfumes, and colourants which can aggravate dry skin. Stick to milder products, like AproDerm for dry skin.

A Healthy Diet

Unfortunately, some foods might be drying out our skin. There are a number of seemingly healthy foods that actually have a diuretic effect on the body, causing us to lose water, and lose moisture from the skin. Asparagus is a diuretic, for example, and some stock cubes for soup contain more than 50 percent salt!

Eating right, exercising more, and taking care of your skin are all excellent resolutions to make, but it’s important to ensure you’re following your resolutions in a sensible and responsible manner.

We would love to hear from you.
